Nice biography. The emphasis on it being authorized made me wonder if it pulled punches a little bit. Half-way through, I wanted to read more about Ms. Waters and less about the restaurant since the former was growing in her quest and the latter was settling in as an institution. Overall a good read.

A young boy moves from Chicago to Hollywood in the late 1940's, receives a magic stone turtle, and has adventures with ghosts, mammoths, shaman, and a troop of new friends.

This was a great book to read aloud to my daughter, not only for the comedy but also for a handful of new and challenging vocabulary words. I found the book in the kids section, but the young at heart (and fans of Mr. Pinkwater are usually that) will enjoy it.
