Author: Colin Ellard
Published: 2009

The subtitle of the book is "Why We Can Find Our Way to the Moon, but Get Lost in the Mall". As someone who can get lost in a well lit room, the subject matter was of great interest.

The author asserts that modern humans have lost much of their navigational abilities with dire consequences, however two-thirds through the book, the focus seems to be lost. The connection between awareness of space and environmental destruction seems tenuous, or at least behavior that has been exhibited since we started making tools.

My hope for tips on finding my car at the mall were dashed. I'll just have to pay more attention.

Labor Day

Author: Joyce Maynard
Published: 2009

An escaped convict falls into the life of Henry and his mother over Labor Day weekend. While they welcome Frank into their home, Henry is torn between bonding with the father figure and turning the man in to keep him away from Henry's mother.

A good read. I like how the author avoids any easy solutions for the characters.

Fool

Author: Christopher Moore
Published: 2009

Mr. Moore is a bawdy bard. Fool is a retelling of the Shakespeare play King Lear with all the naughty bits put back in.

A quick and amusing read. Even if it's not to one's taste, this book can be used as a resource for filthy Elizabethan insults.
