- A great essay by Piers Anthony about writing humor
- An excellent zombie tale by Lyn Cannady called "True Love Rare"
- A wicked awesome adventure by Jessica Reisman entitled "Our Lady of the Mantilla"
- An outrageously cool story by Camille Alexa called "The Good Old-Fashioned Kind of Water"
Okay, since I know the last two writers, I'm a little biased; but the quality of Crossed Genres is consistently good. One can do much worse in the wild world of online fiction.
For 2010 I resolve to read more genre fiction. I do enjoy it, but find myself indulging in much more non-fiction rather than keeping up with the speculative writing world.

My, what nice things to say.
My, what nice things to say. Thank you!
Read SFF, absolutely, but don't neglect reading about real science. As an editor at CG, I can safely warn you that our selection criteria is biased in favor of Science Fiction informed by actual science. Even our favorite Fantasy stories include sensible systems and apply cause and effect.
Speculation is good. Informed speculation is better. :)
Thanks for stopping by, Kay!
Thanks for stopping by, Kay! I'm looking forward to a great year of reading.
Thanks for the links, Todd.
Thanks for the links, Todd. Especially the one about humor.
It is a nice essay by that
It is a nice essay by that elder statesman of SF/F.
I'd never heard of Crossed
I'd never heard of Crossed Genres, which is the story of my writing life, so I checked them out. I'm getting my Lost Highway rights back. I wonder if they'd want to see that on a Romance submission. What do you think? Do they take things previously published?
The submissions guidelines do
The submissions guidelines do not specify one way or the other regarding reprints; couldn't hurt to ask.
Each month has a genre theme (at least up to this point). December submissions can be for any previous genre which would include romance. A perfect time to send your story in if they'll do a reprint.
Actually the guidelines do
Actually the guidelines do specify our policy. If you look on http://crossedgenres.com/submissions/magazine/, a couple paragraphs down you'll see:
"Multiple submissions are encouraged. Simultaneous submissions are all right, but tell us if that’s the case, and tell us immediately if your submission is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept reprints. Turnaround time for responses is a maximum of 60 days."
That's been our policy from the beginning. We have on very rare occasion considered reprints, but we've yet to accept one for publication. Sorry.

I apologize, that is right at
I apologize, that is right at the top of the page. I had scanned down to fiction guidelines and then to the rights section. My fault.
